From the President

Dear HAFC Community,

I am writing to provide an update on how we’re managing the COVID-19 situation at the Hawks Nest.

From a league perspective, AFL Victoria have indicated that they will provide a more detailed update on Community football at the end of April, post the announcement of the expected roadmap for the elite game. I will be sure to keep you informed of any major developments.

As a committee, we’re planning for the various scenarios under which season 2020 may unfold, with a focus on understanding our financial position for both this season and into season 2021 & beyond.

We have made the decision to put player subs on hold until we have some clarity regarding this season. To support the Club with covering expenses incurred to-date for season 2020, I encourage all of our community to get right behind other fundraising activities such as the Toyota ‘Good for Footy’ raffle and our HAFC supporter membership packages

Our playing group are in regular contact with each other and their respective coaches through Zoom meetings, instant messaging groups and player Facebook pages. Players are keeping each other motivated with their fitness programs along with checking in on each other’s health & wellbeing. Highlights have included reading through player profiles and joining a player trivia night last week.

I’m extremely proud to see members of our community supporting each other during these challenging times, which was illustrated by a new player to the Club recently commenting that the ‘support from you guys has been phenomenal, it’s that sort of thing that makes a strong Club and I can’t wait to get back on the track with you all’.

Some of us will continue to feel anxious, isolated or may have had their personal or work situation impacted, so please continue to look after each other and remember that the HAFC WINGS Program is available to any member of the HAFC community, along with the other wider government initiatives.

Thank you all for your continuing support of our Club.

Stay well, Sam Waldron
